What do we do?

We want to improve Animal Welfare throughout Northern Ireland

LostPaws NI was formed in late 2019 in a bit to reunite pets with their owners quicker.

Having experienced first hand the trauma of pet loss after my own dog escaped through a gate which had been left open by a window cleaner. Thankfully, I was able to relocate him 48 hours later but we realised how little support is available out there and wanted to make a difference. We are able to empathise and relate with missing pet owners and this is the fuel that drives our charity.

We started with a handful of volunteers intending to cover Antrim. This quickly extended as the request for our searches increased and we made the decision to cover all of Northern Ireland. We are a very small team of 12 volunteers who can be reached instantly 9am-9pm, and this is all done in our spare time. We complete search and rescue for missing animals, TNR and treatment for feral cat colonies, rehoming and rescuing for dogs and cats in need.

We are passionate about animal welfare. We want to reduce pain and suffering, and we are extremely proud of our work thus far.

Drone SAR

Our drones are able to help us search much larger areas at a quicker speed, however it doesn't replace ground searching - there are many little nooks that can only be seen by in person searching!

We use our thermal drone to detect heat on the ground from up above. We can detect heat sources from the sky that cannot be seen on the ground - this vital piece of equipment is a core part of our ground searching team.

Each drone pilot has an A2COFC and is trained on how to operate our drone.

Search & Rescue

Helping to find and rescue all types of animals across Northern Ireland

Ground Searching

Our volunteers do large scale ground searches across all terrains, all weathers, to try and locate missing pets.

Missing Posters

We print thousands of posters monthly, handing them into local residents and businesses, along with posting them online to spread the word.

Social Media

Our social media is how we connect with the owners we communicate with, along with sharing and spreading the word on missing animals.

Humane Trapping

We set up feeding stations and traps to help safely trap cats and dogs who are unable to be hand caught.

TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release)

Feral colonies of cats can very quickly get overrun. At Lost Paws NI, we safely trap these cats, neuter/spay them, check them for any injuries and administer treatment, such as flea and worming, then return them to the location they previously were.

Conditions such as FIV/FELV can quickly spread, so ensuring that these colonies are neutered/spayed is really important in keeping their overall health.

We also snap test colonies that we catch, which tests for FIV/FELV and ensures the health of the colony before returning and releasing.

Any cats that are not fully feral, we will take into our care and find them an appropriate rescue space.
